Newport Reservoir is a relatively wet place ordinarily with a large amount of precipitation; most of the rain falls during May; the driest of the months is February. This lake is so wonderful. During the summer months highs here at Newport Reservoir reach the 80's, and the nighttime is slightly cooler of course, regularly in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Newport Reservoir.

Horner Run
 | 15 miles away Horner is a great run with 3 major drops from 6 feet to 10-11 feet, the only problem is the take out. First you could carry the mile and a half out a trail on river left, or go under interstate 275 through a 100 yard long tunnel scout the tunnel first for strainers, third you could walk several hundred yards up to 275 and get out on the interstate shoulder. With all this in mind you might as well say forget Horner and head for Halls creek or Hershel run. Both have way easier put-in's and take out's... |
