Calloway Creek
 | Calloway Creek is in danger. A developer from Lexington is planning to put 2300 homes and apartments on the pallisades just above the Kentucky River. Calloway Creek is definitely in danger. The local residents are trying to stop development and have been somewhat successful until this spring. The Developer still doesn't have approval to develop, but he is starting to bulldoze roads in the flood plain. He claims it is for agricultural access, but he has drawn up plans and submitted to local authorities. He has been turned down, but he continues to fight. We need help from environmentalists to stand against this development. Please private message me if you have any ideas. My email address is wheelkat @gmail. com... |
Hickman Creek
 | 12 miles away I have been rideing this strectch of creek about 4 times a summer for the past six years. Woundn't call it rapids though, most of the time it is quite shallow, alot of packing your boat. Flood water is a differt story. It's quite dangerouse but it can be done, I was able to navigate 9 miles of the creek while flooding before I lost my kayak to the creek. Beautiful ride though, bring a fishing pole, lots of small fish!... |
