    What a nice lake Hawkins Pond is. Go for a hike on the Buck Branch Trail; a quick tour to Cow Creek is certainly a magnificent idea. Now, you may feel that's lots but there's even more fun stuff to do here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. You'll meet a lot of folks from Mount Sterling here; Snedegar Pond is a nearby lake that you could have a look at. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Hawkins Pond that you need to camp here for a while,  
   Zilpo Camp Ground is a delightful site for that; Eagle Trace Golf Course is a golf course nearby.
And if that's not enough there's lots more amusing things to do in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. There's great hiking along the Cross Over Trail, and if you get bored of Hawkins Pond you could also explore nearby Spring Grove Lakes. Hawkins Pond is a beautiful lake in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. The top of Green Mountain is easily spotted from Hawkins
 
               Pond, and if you came to camp The Outpost Campground is a great location to do that.
If you want a magnificent time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Hawkins Pond. If you come at the right time of year, Red River offers some good whitewater, and dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Morehead, Ky. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Hawkins Pond without first going for a hike along the Carrington Rock Trail, and Comfort Inn & Suites is a great place to get some rest. Hawkins Pond sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is commonly May, that's the one that rains the most; January is the month with the least moisture.
Near Hawkins Pond you find tremendous places like Campbell Hollow. During the warm days of summer highs here at Hawkins Pond get into the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's; overnight lows through the wintertime for Hawkins Pond tend to be in the 10's.

Are there any camping sites for Boy Scouts? Where can I get more info on the camp? Thank you....Zilpo is the greatest place to spend your time during the camping season. The hosts are absolutely the friendliest, caring people around. Can't beat the beauty all around. Great stress reliever..........believe my I know!!!!...We visited Zilpo Aug 18th and 19 even though it rained we still enjoyed it. Was our first time there loved the clean beach and the wildlife. Thanks The Poynter Family...How we love Zilpo and especially Herron section...wonderful large camping areas...nice ...nice people all over the campground..VERY accomodating camp hosts..don't miss this one......
