Through the warmest time of the year here at Elk Pond, high temperatures generally reach the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for Elk Pond. Elk Pond is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Cane Patch Campground is a brilliant local campground; after a long day outdoors Comfort       Inn Big Stone Gap is a good place to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. The summit of Halls Butt can be made out from Elk Pond, and in the event that you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Powell River. And if that's not sufficient there's lots more cool stuff to do in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Camping at Laurel Fork Campground is always a perfect experience, and Little Fork is one of the streams nearby                  that might be worth visiting. SUPER 8 MOTEL - WHITESBURG is a fine place to get some rest. The annual precipitation here at Elk Pond is about average; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and October is the month with the least moisture.
