Sherburn Lake
| Even though some lakes as Sherburn, Heron, etc. are surrounded by private property the water is still owned by the state and the public should have access to all these waters for fishing hunting etc. some owners feel they have the right to keep you off these lakes and because I pay taxes I feel I should be able to access any lake without the hassel of surrounding owners.I am persuing the laws to these issues.... |

Loon Lake
| My grandparents owned a cottage there. They were Lee and Flo David. They used to tell of a doctor that lived in the cabin before him whose wife disappeared. The FBI dug up all around the cabin looking for a body. Which side of Loon Lake did your relatives live on? The 'old' side, or the 'new'. We were on the old side....Slow down, enjoy the view....The residents of the south side of Loon Lake, Whitley Co., IN seem more intent upon having old people and nursing moms of small infants pulled over for speeding just a few miles over the unreasonable speed limit of 20 MPH than doing something about the drug abuse issue that runs rampant at night into the wee hours of the morning up and down that very road. The drugs and alcohol and corruption happen at night when darkness hinders the thrill of having the visual pleasure of yet another handsome yard finial like a police speed checkpoint to make their yards seem all the more greener in the afternoon sun. Stop nabbing innocent folks on their way into town for petty speed issues and go after the real problem that plagues Loon Lake.... |

Petty Lake
| 15 miles away 1 PHOTO Our dive team Orange Twp Fire Dept.recently raised this old fishing boat from the West end of Pretty Lake. We think it's atleast 40-50 years old. It's painted by kids we think and has the name ''gerbers'' and ''MGA'' painted on the bottom. If you know any history on it contact me 260-854-3003... I had a great aunt who lived on Pretty Lake from the late 1930s to the late 1970s. I spent many summers there, and I loved it; this was in the late 50s to mid-late 60s. In the winter of 1959, we had a Corvair, and my mother drove it out onto the middle of the lake; it was frozen that far down. She and my aunt were ice fishing. I was a teen in the 60s, and I heard Sonny and Cher's ''I Got You Babe'' for the first time while laying on a wooden raft anchored in the lake from the porch of a cottage on shore. There used to be an entertainment area known as ''Merkling's Beach'', which had diving boards, rafts, and a 96-step water toboggan slide the you could rent the ''sleds'' for 50 cents for half an hour. What fun it was. I remember my cousin hunting a lot, and my aunt would have fried fish, turtle, deer, and homegrown foods due to the fertility of the land. I've not been back there in over 20 years, but a flood of warm, wonderful memories came when I returned.... |
