You could also visit Kingsport Lake since you're here at Volkening Lake; it's nearby. There's so much to do here at Volkening Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Green River Oaks is a wonderful spot for that. Dry warm beds await you at Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Schaumburg. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a site to stay Wingate by Wyndham Schaumburg / Convention Center is a delightful choice, and do take a hike on the Fox River Trail. Nearby

This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Volkening Lake has to offer, you can camp at E Z Go, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Fox River. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Volkening Lake fall into the 0's.
Everybody close by loves skiing at Villa Olivia; Illinois & Michigan Canal National
Heritage Corridor is a very great location to go to. Golden Acres Country Club is a magnificent golf course close by, and if you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Chicago-Naperville-Joliet. A typical amount of precipitation
falls here at Volkening Lake; all through the month of August you get the most rain around here; February on the other hand is the driest.

While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |

The Red and Yellow trails are good too, but the Blue is such a delight that the thought of it gets me off the couch. The prairie! Luscious theme park sized soil undulations caused by the glacier!
