A wonderful close by hotel is Comfort Suites Elgin, and fine skiing awaits you at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing). Summertime highs at Tara Lake commonly tend to be in the 80's while nighttime lows are generally in the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Tara Lake temperatures dip to the 0's. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Villa Olivia,

An attention-grabbing thing to take a look at in the vicinity of Tara Lake is Tara Lake Dam, and camping is available at Buffalo Park Campground. Lakes? Sure, Lake Braewood is close by, and while here here do stop at nearby Indian Trail Beach. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Tara Lake you can take a hike along the Fox River Trail; get wet paddling on Fox River. Country | |

Inn & Suites By Carlson Elgin is a magnificent place to get some rest, and if you came for an overnight stay Fox Valley Camp Ground is a magnificent location to camp. On a great day at Tara Lake you can take a hike along the Lake
Defiance Trail. Be careful coming to Tara Lake, you might not ever wanna return back home again. The Leather Leaf Bog Trail is a wonderful hiking trail next to Tara Lake, and a round of golf at nearby Randall Oaks Golf Club is a glorious
way to kill some time. A normal amount of rainfall falls here at Tara Lake; June is the month that gets the most rain; February meanwhile is the driest month.

Fox River
 | 12 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
