There's whitewater on Pike River for all you thrill seekers; Radisson Hotel & Conference Center Kenosha is a good location to get some rest. The Volo Bog Interpretive Trail is a glorious hiking trail next to Sterling Lake; dry warm beds await you at Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Wadsworth/Waukegan/Gurnee. | | and a delightful place to camp here at Sterling Lake is Happy Acres Kamp Ground. This lake is so wonderful. On a tremendous day at Sterling Lake you can take a hike along the Tamarack View Trail, and get your heart beating on the fine whitewater of Root River.
For the period of the months of summer, highs typically are in the 80's at Sterling Lake, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's with | |

temperatures at Sterling Lake dipping down into the 0's during winter nights. Van Patten Woods Forest Preserve is a nice local forest; you can never get enough of the nice skiing at Wilmot mountain.
This lake is so wonderful.
Lakes are such serene places, why not check out Elmwood Farms Lake in the vicinity of Sterling Lake, and Sterling Lake is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Fox River Recreation is a pleasant local campground. You'll stumble
on a charming lake called Grandwood Lake near Sterling Lake, and Sterling Lake is not far at all from Racine. Sterling Lake is a good place of typical rainfall; the month with most of the rain is August while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Very fun stretch of river, if there is water. The root is best paddled the day after a rainfall. Check the reports, it is not worth your time if the water is below 250cfs. That is the absolute minimum. There are 2 fun waves to surf, 3 in very high water. Bring playboats, this stretch of whitewater is only about 500 yards. Both waves have pretty good washout, there is a small hole on the lower wave, but not bad.... |
