     Not far from Stephanie Lake, you'll find Hawthorn Lake which is a striking lake, and going for a hike along the Fox River Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. Lakes are pleasant; Keene Lake is a lake that's in the vicinity of Stephanie Lake, and what would winter be without some skiing at Villa Olivia. From a precipitation point of view Stephanie Lake is a reasonably common site; through the month of August you get the most rain around  
   here while February is commonly the driest month. All through the summer highs here at Stephanie Lake get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's while the cold winter nights at Stephanie Lake are in the 0's.
This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is great here at Stephanie Lake, you can go for a hike along the Lake Defiance Nature Trail; a magnificent close by hotel is Days Inn Barrington
 
               - Chicago. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Fox River, and E Z Go is a good campground nearby. Having a delightful time at Stephanie Lake is trouble-free. Stephanie Lake is a fine spot to visit for more than one day, Fox Valley Camp Ground is a fine spot to camp nearby; you can have a delightful hiking adventure along the Lake Defiance Trail.
Why not visit Keene Lake Dam while you're here, and you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) since you're here. Here at Stephanie Lake there are plenty of people from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet. A golf course close to Stephanie Lake is Makray Memorial Golf Club, and Hoffman Estates Chicago Red Roof Inn is a delightful site to get some rest.

The Red and Yellow trails are good too, but the Blue is such a delight that the thought of it gets me off the couch. The prairie! Luscious theme park sized soil undulations caused by the glacier! Interesting gravel. You sense the deer watching you. About an hour around if you are walking for fitness.  Avoid only when icy.  Plenty of parking....

While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron....
