than one day, Fox Valley Camp Ground is a fine spot to camp nearby; you can have a delightful hiking adventure along the Lake Defiance Trail. Why not visit Keene Lake Dam while you're here, and you'll never forgive yourself if
you don’t go skiing at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) since you're here. Here at Stephanie Lake there are plenty of people from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet. A golf course close to Stephanie Lake is Makray Memorial Golf Club, and Hoffman Estates Chicago Red Roof Inn is a delightful site to get some rest.

There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
