most, and February on the other hand is the driest. Very stunning scenery and good skiing is what you get at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing), and there are tremendous spots to explore along the Fox
River Trail. Lakes are such peaceful places, why not explore Lake of the Coves in close proximity to South Lake of the Coves, and you can go for a hike on the Lake Defiance Nature Trail. This lake is so wonderful. South Lake of the
Coves is not far at all from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet; get yourself into a kayak and hit Fox River. This lake is so wonderful. You'll hit upon a beautiful lake called Barrington Road Pond near South Lake of the Coves, and camping is available at Fox Valley Camp Ground.

Fox River
 | 15 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
