South Lake is always a pleasure to visit. South Lake Dam has delightful water scenery and it's near South Lake; everybody nearby loves skiing at Wilmot mountain. Swamps like Turnberry Wetlands in close proximity to South Lake make for good sites to visit; camping at Fox Valley Camp Ground is always a tremendous experience. But wait, there's more to do close to South Lake. You'll discover a lovely lake called Lake in the Hills Number 2 near South Lake; South

| | Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Buffalo Park Campground is a good local campground. Just can't get enough of South Lake. This is a popular location for folks from Whitewater. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Chicago-Algonquin, Il is a magnificent site to get some rest, and a golf course close by is Redtail Golf Club. South Lake is a good location of common precipitation; through June this area sees the most rain; the driest month is February. | |

If the weather is great here at South Lake, you can go for a hike along the Lake Defiance Trail; Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) is a fine local ski area. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling
is splendid on Fox River, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Leather Leaf Bog Trail. During your stay at South Lake do explore nearby Indian Trail Beach; a delightful lake like Crystal Lake is a splendid place to
explore. All through the summertime at South Lake temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at South Lake
are in the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Chicago/Crystal Lake Super 8 Motel; going for a hike along the Fox River Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity.

Fox River
 | 19 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
