Lily Pond is a delightful lake next to Schaffer Pond, and Austin Creek Settling Basin is a glorious place here at Schaffer Pond. There are some perfect whitewater spots on Fall Creek; Best Western On the River is a tremendous place to get some rest. For the period of the summer at Schaffer Pond temperatures are regularly in the 80's while night lows are commonly in the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 30's, and through the dark

| | hours in the wintertime at Schaffer Pond temperatures descend to the 10's. During your spree to Schaffer Pond you'll meet some folks from Hannibal for sure, and dry warm beds await you at Hotel Clemens Hannibal. The yearly precipitation here at Schaffer Pond is about average; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and January is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. here for a while, Bayview Campers Park is a magnificent site for that, and do visit Austin Creek while you're here at Schaffer Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Schaffer Pond is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Bayview
Camper's Park is a nice local campground; there are other sites here than Schaffer Pond, for example Circle Pond. That right there is a lot already, but it carries on; Schaffer Pond has it all. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone
but if it's for you then we recommend Cedar Creek, and if you're a golfer then a good nearby course is American Legion Golf Course.

Cedar Creek
 | 10 miles away 1 PHOTO In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago.... |
