is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Residence Inn By Marriott Chicago Naperville; whitewater paddling is splendid on Fox River. Throughout the warm months highs here at Quarry Lake get into the 80's with night lows in the
60's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's, and night lows during the winter for Quarry Lake tend to be in the 10's. An average amount of rain falls at Quarry Lake; June is the wettest month with most
rain, and February is when it's the driest. Why not pop by Fawell Dam if you're here; in the event that you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Des Plaines.

Des Plaines
 | 1 PHOTO To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest.... |
Villa Olivia
 | 10 miles away Villa Olivia is a great place to bring your family specially of you have small kids. It's like a big snow playground. The slope is not very impressive but it's ok for a quick little mini ski trip.... |
Fox River
 | 11 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
