A magnificent close by hotel is Super 8 Yorkville. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Lake Plano has to offer, you can camp at Fitzpatrick's Yogi Bear-resort. Lake Plano is a good spot of normal rain; the wettest month of the year is mostly July, that's the one that rains the most while February is frequently the driest month. the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Lake Plano.

 | 16 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
