Stay the night at Fox Valley Camp Ground, and do take a hike on the Fox River Trail. Buffalo Park Campground is a good campground nearby, and the snow is great at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing). If you're interested in hydro structures, you can take a look at Galvins Lake Dam, and there's whitewater on Fox River for all you adrenaline kick people. The amount of rain that falls at Penny Road Pond is close to the national average;

 | 14 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
