Hiking is a popular thing to do around Peck Lake; Beaver Dam Hiking and Cross-Country Ski Trail is a great local trail, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at close by Villa Olivia. The Fox Ridge Nature Trail offers hiking at its best. Lakes are splendid; Nelson Lake is a lake that's near Peck Lake. This lake is so wonderful. | | be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at close by Mooseheart Lake. Summer at Peck Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer overnight lows descend down to the 60's. Highs during the winter are ordinarily in the 20's while Peck Lake nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 0's. This is no place for people who don’t like to have a good time. close at hand, and after a long day outdoors Fairfield Inn & Suites Chicago St. Charles is a great site to spend a night or two. There are some good whitewater spots on Fox River, and in the vicinity of Peck Lake you come across a
golf course called Eagle Brook Country Club. Peck Lake is a good site of typical rainfall; June is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. Stay the night at Buffalo Park Campground, and dry warm beds await you at Hotel Baker. This lake is so wonderful.

Fox River
 | While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
