Cherry Hill Woods is a great local forest, and Windy City Campground is a magnificent campground nearby. Don't miss out on a glorious swamp; Groundhog Slough is right here at Papoose Lake, and a lake close by is Horsetail Lake. Throughout the long summer days here at Papoose Lake, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 60's. Throughout the winter the highs are regularly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Papoose

water nearby, Crooked Creek is a stream you can have a look at while here. Lots of folks from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet come to Papoose Lake, and enjoy a round of golf at Palos Country Club. And if that's not sufficient, there's
loads more to do close to Papoose Lake. Skiing at Villa Olivia is one of those things you just must do. Stay the night at A-ok Campgrounds Of Frankfort, and Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor is one of the destinations

While it’s unclear whether the State will put ''trail closed'' signs up, there is no apparent money to maintain them and fallen trees, washouts, and other issues will undoubtedly happen.  | 14 miles away 1 PHOTO To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest.... |
