Take a hike on the Beaver Dam Hiking and Cross-Country Ski Trail. Lakes? Sure, Foxcroft Lake is around here. This lake is so wonderful. What would winter be without some skiing at Villa Olivia, and Cedar Ridge Primitive Campground is a great local campground. If you need a place to stay Candlewood Suites AURORA-NAPERVILLE is a good choice, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at close by Peck Lake. Lakes since you're here at Nelson Lake. If only every site had this much outdoors fun things, what a great world it would be. A wonderful nearby hotel is Hampton Inn Suites Chicago; if you're a golfer then a perfect nearby course is Tanna Farms Golf Club.

Fox River
 | While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
