You're probably keen on lakes, Mirror Lake is one of those nearby, and Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) is a very popular ski area in the vicinity. For the period of the summertime at Mud Lake highs are usually in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. | | 0's. This lake is so wonderful. A perfect location to camp here at Mud Lake is Fox Valley Camp Ground; don't leave Mud Lake without first going for a hike along the Lake Defiance Trail. After a long day outdoors Days Inn Barrington - Chicago is a great place to spend a night or two; if you've had enough of Mud Lake, Spring Lake is nearby. Forest Preserve. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors entertaining stuff the area near Mud Lake has to offer. A round of golf at nearby Cary Country Club is a good way to kill some time, and Fox River has a fine whitewater
paddling spot nearby. Mud Lake gets a normal amount of yearly precipitation; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. Mud Lake is great enough to spend more than a day
at, Buffalo Park Campground is a great local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Lake Defiance Nature Trail, and why not head up to Villa Olivia and strap some skis to your feet. Chicago Marriott
Northwest is a pleasant site to get some rest, and there are nice sites to explore along the Fox River Trail.

Fox River
 | 16 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
