A tremendous place to camp here at Mooseheart Lake is Buffalo Park Campground, and naturally, this is a great area for folks who like lakes, Foxcroft Lake is a lake nearby. If the weather is great here at Mooseheart Lake, you can go for a hike along the Fox Ridge Nature Trail; you can never get enough of the delightful skiing at Villa Olivia. At Mooseheart Lake throughout the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures

| | are in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Mooseheart Lake descend into the 0's. From a precipitation point of view Mooseheart Lake is a reasonably typical spot; June is the month that gets the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. Fox River
 | While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
