There is a pleasant hiking trail right next door to Minooka Widewater called the Tallgrass Nature Trail, and the slopes of Four Lakes are so inviting noone can resist. After a long day outdoors Best Western Joliet Inn & Suites is a fine location to spend a night or two; you're probably addicted to lakes, Frontage Road Pond is one of those close by. All through the warmest time of the year at Minooka Widewater temperatures are frequently in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows at Minooka Widewater through the winter ordinarily fall into the 10's. Du Page River is a stream you can stop at while you're here, and Lake Shokakana Family Resort is a good campground nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Wingate by Wyndham Joliet is a pleasant spot to get some rest; there's whitewater on Des Plaines for all you adrenaline people.

 | 13 miles away 1 PHOTO To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest.... |
