A tremendous spot to have a look at close to Mayer Pond is Possum Hollow, and if you need a spot to stay Best Western On the River is a tremendous choice. Mayer Pond highs are regularly in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while Mayer Pond overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 10's.

 | 13 miles away 1 PHOTO In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out.
