     Not far from Maple Lake you acquire some great water scenery at Maple Lake Dam, and not far from Maple Lake you'll stumble on Mallard Pond which is a scenic lake. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at A-ok Campgrounds Of Frankfort; a round of golf at nearby Flagg Creek Golf Course Restaurant is a good way to kill some time. Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor is a magnificent spot right next door to Maple Lake, and there's whitewater on Des  
   Plaines for all you thrill seekers. A splendid nearby hotel is Chicago Marriott Southwest at Burr Ridge; you'll in all probability meet some people from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet here.
Columbia Woods is worth a visit, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Villa Olivia is quite near. An average amount of precipitation falls at Maple Lake; the wettest month of the year is usually July, that's the one that rains the most, and February is the month with the
 
               least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Crooked Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth a visit; swamps like Boomerang Slough are fun to pop by.
Yeah, come here to Maple Lake for a good time. After a long day outdoors Quality Inn Burr Ridge is a wonderful spot to spend a night or two, and the snow is wonderful at Four Lakes. Windy City Campground is a magnificent campground nearby; there are other spots here than Maple Lake, for example Bull Frog Lake. The warmest time of the year at Maple Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 60's. During the winter highs are regularly in the 20's with temperatures at Maple Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights.
This place, Maple Lake, it truly has so much outdoors enjoyable stuff.

The Governor’s office recently announced that the State of Illinois will be closing the I&M and Hennepin Canal State Parks. While it’s unclear whether the State will put ''trail closed'' signs up, there is no apparent money to maintain them and fallen trees, washouts, and other issues will undoubtedly happen. Please help keep this trail open. Illini campground is permanently closing on Nov. 1,2008 Gov.Blagojevic is closing many nice parks. in region 1, 2, &3 but none in his area....

To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest....

Villa Olivia is a great place to bring your family specially of you have small kids. It's like a big snow playground. The slope is not very impressive but it's ok for a quick little mini ski trip....
