     People from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet love to come to Mallard Pond, and dry warm beds await you at Quality Inn Burr Ridge. Chicago Marriott Southwest at Burr Ridge is a good spot to get some rest; don't leave Mallard Pond without first checking out Swallow Cliffs. And that's not all you can do here at Mallard Pond. Head up to Villa Olivia and strap some skis to your feet. This lake is so wonderful. There are swamps here too; Boomerang Slough is nearby; Cherry  
   Hill Woods is a nice local forest.
Get wet paddling on Des Plaines; a pretty lake like Joes Pond is a brilliant spot to go to. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors fun things the area in the vicinity of Mallard Pond has to offer. Windy City Campground is a wonderful local campground; while you're here and you like golf, you can stop at Flagg Creek Golf Course Restaurant. This lake is so wonderful.                Canal National Heritage Corridor is reasonably near Mallard Pond; Four Lakes is a very popular ski area close by.
Do explore Maple Lake Dam if you're here at Mallard Pond; there's some flowing water nearby, Crooked Creek is a stream you can pop by while here. Mallard Pond is a good site of common rain; during the month of July you get the most rain around here, and February on the other hand is the driest. You'll hit upon a beautiful lake called Maple Lake near Mallard Pond, and Mallard Pond is a brilliant place to visit for more than one day, A-ok Campgrounds Of Frankfort is a brilliant place to camp nearby.
Summertime highs at Mallard Pond regularly tend to be in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. All through the winter the highs are regularly in the 20's, and night lows in the 10's for Mallard Pond.

While it’s unclear whether the State will put ''trail closed'' signs up, there is no apparent money to maintain them and fallen trees, washouts, and other issues will undoubtedly happen. To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest....

Villa Olivia is a great place to bring your family specially of you have small kids. It's like a big snow playground. The slope is not very impressive but it's ok for a quick little mini ski trip....
