You can run the rapids of Bear Creek in the vicinity of Lima Lake, and hiking along the Locust Lane Nature Trail is tremendous fun. At Lima Lake through the summer months highs are in the 80's; the nighttime is somewhat cooler of course, typically in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's; overnight lows at Lima Lake all through the wintertime usually fall into the 10's. And if that's not enough, there's a heap more to do right next door to

 | 12 miles away 1 PHOTO In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out.
