     The smiling people of Monroe like to hang out close by, and Travelodge Inn and Suites - Freeport is a perfect site to get some rest. The annual rain here at Lake Summerset is about average; all through August this area sees the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month. At Lake Summerset throughout the warm months highs are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's while Lake Summerset  
   nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 0's. Crazy Horse Campground is a perfect local campground, and Decatur Lake 525 is a nice lake nearby.

Large trees shape and shade the campsites. A boat launch for small boats and canoes, in the lower part of the preserve, provides access to the Pecatonica River. An interpretive booklet is available at the trail head to guide hikers along a 1 1/2 mile nature trail. An additional 8 miles of trail are available to hike at your pleasure. Campers, even on the busiest weekends, can be assured of finding a site in this remote campground, The campground is located four miles northeast of Pecatonica, offering easy access to activities at the Winnebago County Fairgrounds. The campground is open from mid April until mid November,weather permitting. There are 49 sites (4-50 amp and 45- 30 amp hookups), dump station, and horseshoe pits.
