need a location to stay Courtyard Chicago Elgin/West Dundee is a glorious choice. This lake is so wonderful. The Fox River Trail offers hiking at its best; Villa Olivia has good slopes and a friendly staff. This lake is so wonderful.
While you're here at Lake Marian you can play some golf at Golf Club of Illinois; a tremendous place to camp here at Lake Marian is Fox Valley Camp Ground. Really nice skiing awaits you at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing), and a day at delightful Indian Trail Beach next to Lake Marian is a fine thing to do.

Fox River
 | 14 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
