Lake Defiance Nature Trail
 | The Red and Yellow trails are good too, but the Blue is such a delight that the thought of it gets me off the couch. The prairie! Luscious theme park sized soil undulations caused by the glacier! Interesting gravel. You sense the deer watching you. About an hour around if you are walking for fitness. Avoid only when icy. Plenty of parking.... |

There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
