If you like skiing, you're in luck; Four Lakes is close to Kingsport Lake, and you can have a good hiking adventure along the Volo Bog Interpretive Trail. The vistas at Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor will blow your mind. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Kingsport Lake; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is February. Fox River
 | 17 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
