This lake is so wonderful. You don’t have to go far from Island Lake to make out the water at Island Lake Dam, and don't leave Island Lake without first going for a hike along the Lake Defiance Nature Trail. Don't miss out on a good swamp; Cotton Creek Marsh is right here at Island Lake; the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes       of nearby Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing). Island Lake is a good site of typical rainfall; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest month of the year is February. A magnificent nearby hotel is Super 8 McHenry; if you've had enough of Island Lake, Griswold Lake is close by. That right there is a lot already, but it goes on; Island Lake has it all. There's so much to do here at Island Lake that you need to camp here                  for a while, Fox Valley Camp Ground is a glorious spot for that, and a golf course nearby is Chalet Hills Golf Club. High temperatures at Island Lake through the summer months are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Island Lake tend to be in the 10's. Island Lake is not the only site close by, Slocum Lake is a close by lake, and there are wonderful spots to look at along the Lake Defiance Trail. The snow is great at Wilmot mountain. This lake is so wonderful.
