E Z Go is a nice campground nearby, and going for a hike on the Lake Defiance Nature Trail is always a good adventure. From a rain point of view Island Lake is a relatively common place; through June this area sees the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. Summertime highs at Island Lake typically tend to be in the 80's; the nighttime is a little chillier of course, ordinarily in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs

| | in the 20's with temperatures at Island Lake dipping down into the 0's through winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. There is a brilliant hiking trail close to Island Lake called the Lake Defiance Trail; not far from here you can enjoy the trees of Wayne Grove County Forest Preserve. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors entertaining things the area right next door to Island Lake has to offer. You'll meet a lot of folks from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet | |

here; the Fox River Trail is a glorious hiking trail nearby. A good nearby hotel is Chicago Marriott Northwest, and you'll stumble on a pretty lake called Bode Lakes. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Island Lake, you
could also go to gorgeous Heritage Lake; Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) is a very popular ski area in the neighborhood. An afternoon playing golf at Bartlett Hills Golf Club is always a diversion;
get your pulse rate up on the glorious whitewater of Fox River. Villa Olivia has good slopes and a friendly staff, and if you came for an overnight stay Buffalo Park Campground is a fine place to camp. After a long day outdoors Pheasant Run Resort & Spa is a great place to spend a night or two.

Fox River
 | While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
