There's a forest here at Horsetail Lake called Cherry Hill Woods, and Horsetail Lake is not the only location nearby, Papoose Lake is a nearby lake. If you get bored of Horsetail Lake, you could also stop at nearby Papoose Lake; after a long day outdoors The Essence Suites is a great spot to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is tremendous on Des Plaines, and naturally Crooked Creek is a striking stream that is worth taking

Golf can be played at Palos Country Club, and a good location to camp here at Horsetail Lake is Windy City Campground. Groundhog Slough is an out of the ordinary swamp next to Horsetail Lake, and a day on the slopes of Four Lakes
is just what you need. So much amusing stuff to do here at Horsetail Lake, too great to be true. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Villa Olivia is next to Horsetail Lake. If you haven’t been to Illinois & Michigan Canal National
Heritage Corridor, you ought to schedule some time for it since you're here, and do take a look at Papoose Lake Dam since you're here. A common amount of rain falls here at Horsetail Lake; July is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.

While it’s unclear whether the State will put ''trail closed'' signs up, there is no apparent money to maintain them and fallen trees, washouts, and other issues will undoubtedly happen.  | 14 miles away 1 PHOTO To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest.... |
