do here at Hawthorn Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Fox Valley Camp Ground is a tremendous location for that, and get covered with water paddling on Fox River. This place, Hawthorn Lake, it truly has so much outdoors
fun stuff. There's always Keene Lake Dam to pop by in the vicinity of Hawthorn Lake, and the skiing at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) is perfect. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Hawthorn
Lake has to offer, you can camp at E Z Go; there is a glorious hiking trail nearby called the Lake Defiance Trail. The yearly precipitation here at Hawthorn Lake is about average; August is the wettest month with most rain; February is when it's the driest.

There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
