Why not camp at Empress Rv Resort if you're here at Four Lakes, and Hickory Ridge Marriott Conference Hotel is a pleasant location to get some rest. Prentiss Creek is near Four Lakes and is always a bliss to go to, and the snow is good at Four Lakes. This lake is so wonderful. A day on the slopes of Villa Olivia is just what you need, and if you haven’t been to Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor, you must schedule some time for it while you're

| | here. Here at Four Lakes you'll almost certainly meet some people from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, and paddling on Des Plaines is so much fun. Prince Lake is a fine lake right next door to Four Lakes, and glide down the rapids of Fox River in a kayak. This lake is so wonderful. A great place to camp here at Four Lakes is Martin Campground-joliet, and there are other locations here than Four Lakes, for example Lambert Lake. This spot is great, just check | |

out all the enjoyable stuff to do near Four Lakes. Dry warm beds await you at Oakwood at Village Green of 7 Bridges, and Seven Bridges Golf Club is a golf course close by. Four Lakes is a good spot of normal rain; the wettest month
of the year is generally June, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is February. Summertime highs at Four Lakes usually tend to be in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The winter
comes with highs in the 20's, and overnight lows at Four Lakes through the winter mostly descend into the 10's.

Des Plaines
 | 1 PHOTO To inspect for log jams beneath the gravel pit access bridge directly east of Romeoville High School, you are allowed to drive up to, but not ACROSS the bridge, according to a security gaurd at the gravel pit. To check for log jams, I'd park BEFORE the bridge, and get out and walk across the bridge, looking over the railing. Also, there's a spot where you can walk up to the river edge. Facing east, it will be on your right, before the bridge. I'm uploading a photo dated April 12, 2002. It's a view of that bridge, taken from the water, looking southwest.... |

While it’s unclear whether the State will put ''trail closed'' signs up, there is no apparent money to maintain them and fallen trees, washouts, and other issues will undoubtedly happen. Fox River
 | 16 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
