Devil's Kitchen Boat Dock is a splendid local campground, and Elkville Country Club Reservoir Dam is a pretty place. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Super 8 Du Quoin is a brilliant place to spend a night or two; you'll possibly meet some people from Carbondale here. Summer at Elkville Reservoir comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. Highs throughout the winter are mostly in the 30's,

Just took a drive thru the Squirrels Nest Campground. The place is beautiful and very well kept up. I talked with the manager who was very nice and had my name put on the waiting list, so hopefully I will get a site there in the near future....The squirrel's nest has improved so much since a new manager has taken over, this is now one of the nicest campgrounds in southern illinois but its very hard to get a site here cause its full and no one wants to leave... |
