    A visit to Dongola Lake is always a good idea. Don't forget to take a brilliant little trip to Crooked Creek, and while you're here, you could also go to wonderful Lence Pond. Yeah, come here to Dongola Lake for a magnificent time. Golf can be played at Union County Country Club, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Little Grassy Creek. All through the warm days of summer highs here at Dongola Lake reach the 80's. Summer night lows fall down to the 60's. For  
   the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Dongola Lake are in the 20's.
After a long day outdoors SUPER 8 MOTEL - ANNA is a delightful place to spend a night or two, and going for a hike along the Opossum Trot Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. A good location to camp here at Dongola Lake is Caledonia Campground, and Morgan Pond is a nearby lake that you could stop by. Dry

Dongola Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; most of the rain falls through May, and the driest month of the year is January. This lake is so wonderful. Very glorious water scenery is available at Dongola Lake Dam close to Dongola Lake, and why not camp at Little Grassy Lake Campground & Marina since you're here at Dongola Lake.

Pine Hills Campground is the place to go when exploring the Shawnee National Forest. Finding the campground can be difficult, but easy if you have a topographic atlas. It is located adjacent to Illinois largest wilderness complex, nothing significant on a grand scale, but a world away from the madness of Chicago at the opposite end of the state. It is between ILL routes 3 and 127 between Grand Tower and Trail of Tears state forest. I'm sorry to say I cannot share the best site in the campsround, but will probably find it yourself without much effort. It is at the back of the loop adjacent to the stream. I basically gave it away, but good hunting still! Actually, it can be difficult to find, but well worth the solitude. Good wildlife viewing in the area, especially near the LaRue Swamp area- many hawks can be seen in this perennial spring fed wetland. It is the Mississippi River Valley in a natural state- a remnant of it, at least. ...
