If you need a spot to stay Hotel Baker is a great choice, and a day on the slopes of Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park (Snowboarding only - no skiing) is just what you need. You'll hit upon a delightful lake called Spring Valley Lake near Campton Lake, and on a great day you can take a hike along the Fox Ridge Nature Trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this place. Camping at Hide-A-Way Lakes is always a splendid experience; dry warm beds await you at Fairfield

This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are such calm spots, why not explore Lake Campton near Campton Lake. scenery at Campton Lake Dam, and the skiing at Villa Olivia is wonderful. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Campton Lake you can take a hike along the Beaver Dam Hiking and Cross-Country Ski Trail; if you came to
camp Buffalo Park Campground is a pleasant site to do that. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Campton Lake, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter the highs are frequently in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for Campton Lake.

Fox River
 | While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
