Don't leave Beaver Lake without first going for a hike along the Fox Ridge Nature Trail, and Cedar Ridge Primitive Campground is a magnificent campground nearby. This lake is so wonderful. If you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Fox River, obviously you could also have a look at Lake Plano if you're here; it's not far at all.

Rolling Oaks Camp Ground
 | I had the best time at rolling oaks campground on July 8th through July the 14th, and plan on going back in about a week to spend some more time up there with my boyfriend before the summer ends. It's a beautiful place to be, especially at night time with a camp fire going, and just the two of us sitting there under the stars cuddled up together.... |

Staff was very nice but owner was very crabby - all the time!...They are so much fun...I've been camping there since I was a kid and now my husband and I are getting ready to go on our first camping trip together. We'll be there 8 days and I just can't wait! It's owned by an amazing family and the grounds are beautiful and well kept. FIVE STARS!... |
Fox River
 | 18 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
Glenwood RV Resort
 | 19 miles away Glenwood RV Resort is nestled in the lush Illinois River Valley, just one mile from the Illinois River and only 16 miles from the famous Starved Rock State Park. Large, fully-improved sites are sprinkled throughout this 400-acre park. We have several hundred acres of trails. Enjoy local sightseeing and water sports or relax by Glenwood's pool and swimming pond....... of my first visits there would have been in approximately 1965 or so. I was about four or five then. There are five children in our family and we camped there frequently. Our mother took us there often for two reasons. One to take a break from our every day lives and mostly to get away from my alchoholic father. We went there at all hours of the day and night. In summertime when the sun was shining we swam almost the whole day and when it rained and the only camping spot left in the middle of the night was going downhill, the rain poured through our tent. Even though we went through some definite times of despair, our mother took us to a place where we could feel safe and try and have some joy in life. I remember sitting around the campfire where there were sing-a-longs after the sun went down. Swimming all day, hiking all day in the trails surrounding the campgrounds with new found friends was always a ton of fun. I have lived in Arizona and California since 1983 and I still have a strong desire to bring my children to a place I called home many a terrifying night. I found ... |
