Nearby lakes? Sure, Stephanie Lake is in the neighborhood of Baker Lake; if you're popping by from Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, you won't be the only one. Just can't get enough of Baker Lake. This lake is so wonderful. The skiing at Villa Olivia is nice, and Baker Lake is a great location to visit for more than one day, E Z Go is a great location to camp nearby. This lake is so wonderful.  | 19 miles away While there is limited whitewater, the Fox River has many put ins and take outs from just south of Elgin all the way to just north of the confluence of the Fox and the Illinois River. There are miles of quiet country scenery on the section of the river from Yorkville south (about 15 miles) There is an outfitter at the dam in Yorkville (Freeman's Sports)who rents canoes by the day and will provide shuttle service. There are sandstone cliffs near Sheridan. There are campgrounds along the river south of Yorkville for those who want to spend more than one day on the river. Be sure to be aware of where the dams are, they are dangerous. There are no dams south of Yorkville except the Dayton Dam which is a hydroelectric dam that prevents passage beyond Wedron.... |
