In the event that you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Salmon River, and if you've had enough of Vernon Lake, Edna Lake is nearby. Vernon Lake gets a common amount of yearly rain; the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow while July is usually the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. All through the months of summer here at Vernon Lake,       high temperatures mostly get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and overnight lows at Vernon Lake throughout the winter generally plunge into the 10's. But wait, there's more exciting things to do in the Sawtooth Range. Soldier Mountain Ski Resort is a very popular ski area close by; you can see Glens Peak from Vernon Lake. This lake is located in the wonderful Sawtooth Range. Salmon                  River is a magnificent whitewater spot near Vernon Lake, and there are magnificent places to discover along the Yuba River Trail. A nice spot to camp here at Vernon Lake is Smoky Bear Campground, and you're almost certainly into lakes, Virginia Lake is one of those close by. What a place this is for outdoors folks. Camping at Alturas Inlet Campground is always a glorious experience, and there is a tremendous hiking trail close by called the Bull Moose Trail. This lake is so wonderful.
