MORE STUFF NEARBY:

Wildhorse Campground
I camped at Wildhorse Creek Campground during August 2005. I found a hidden gem. Lots of activities for the outdoorsman, fishing, hiking, 4-wheeling, dirt biking. This campground has the hand cranked water pumps. At first the water may come out dirty, but keep pumping, it will clear up. The restrooms were very tidy and not smelly which is common for pit tiolets. My first morning there, I awoke to find a bull moose and a cow moose grazing in the brush across the road less than 20 yards from the campsite. The road is a little rough and could be graded. The road cotinues beyond the campground, but there is a sign that indicates its a rough rough.
Believe what it says, it is a very rough road, with the creek washing it out in some places. Do not take anything less than a 4 wheel drive vehicle on this part of the road.
The trip is worth it though, the views are spectacular.

Big Lost River - East Fork
10 miles away
I've rafted this streach, as well as down to Bartlett Point many times on an 8' pontoon boat. Canyon area just before confluence with N. Fk. is pretty tricky. There is a narrow chute that can be dangerous. Lots of fun to be had on the Big Lost! Come try it for yourself, spend some $ in Mackay & tell 'em you want this river kept as wild as possible....
