Twin Lakes is a nice lake to visit. And that's not everything there is to do here in the Sawtooth Range. Everybody close by loves skiing at Soldier Mountain Ski Resort; don't leave Twin Lakes without first going for a hike along the Yellow Belly Trail. You can catch a sight of El Capitan from Twin Lakes, and a lake nearby is Bowknot Lake. There's good hiking along the Bull Moose Trail. There's so much to do here at Twin Lakes that you need to camp here for

| | a while, Alturas Inlet Campground is a fine place for that. This place, Twin Lakes, it clearly has so much outdoors entertaining stuff. Alice Lake is a nearby lake that you could have a look at, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Twin Lakes; Yuba River Trail is a glorious local trail. Just can't get enough of the Sawtooth Range. This lake is one of the great places here in the Sawtooth Range. This lake is so wonderful. A fine site for whitewater | |

paddling in close proximity to Twin Lakes is Salmon River; if you came to camp Smoky Bear Campground is a great location to do that. Twin Lakes gets a normal amount of annual precipitation; the month of January is the wettest with
most of the snow, and the driest month of the year is July. High temperatures at Twin Lakes through the days of summer are in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's typically in the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Twin Lakes.

Hell Roaring Lake
 | Hi, we (wife and I) walked into the lake the 3rd week of July 2008; we took the unmaintained road to about 200 yards from the trailhead. If you take this in lieu of the walk in, plan on a 40 minute drive to cover 5-miles; your vehicle (should be high-center 4-wd) will get scratched up from the branches adjacent to the road. The parking lot holds 6-vehicles...if you encounter another vehicle coming at you, there are very few areas where you can back into/get off the road to let the other pass; it is a 'long way' to back up on a challenging road. To get to the trail head from the parking lot, you will ford 2-branches of the river/stream (10 ? 20? across)...walk across deadfall with the aid of a walking stick...or walk thru the water...just below the knee. We walked in on a tuesday and encountered 15+ people coming/going on the path. Easy 2-mile walk, many mosquitoes...quicker coming back.... |
Elk Lake
 | Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk.... |
