     Summertime at Swamp Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 40's. During the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Swamp Lake. But wait, there's more to do near Swamp Lake. There's whitewater on Salmon River - Middle Fork for all you thrill seekers; there are some brilliant whitewater spots on Marsh Creek. This location, the Sawtooth Range, has so much outdoors entertaining  
   stuff. There's so much to do here at Swamp Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Thatcher Creek Campground is a magnificent spot for that; Swamp Lake is right by the Blue Bunch Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Swamp Lake is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Lola Creek Campground is a brilliant local campground, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Bear Valley Creek Trail. While you're here at Swamp Lake, you could also stop at
 
               wonderful Marten Lake, and hiking along the Camptender Trail is pleasant fun. Swamp Lake is a beautiful lake in the Sawtooth Range.
So many fun things to do in the Sawtooth Range, not enough time. Kelly Lake is a nearby lake that you could pop by, and a tremendous panorama of picturesque Copper Mountain is available. Swamp Lake gets a normal amount of yearly rain; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily January, that's the one that snows the most, and July on the other hand is the driest.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....

Elk Lake

Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk....
