    In Idaho there are many beautiful lakes, Swamp Lake is one of them. Through the days of summer here at Swamp Lake, high temperatures usually get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Swamp Lake. And that's not all you can do here at Swamp Lake. The Camptender Trail is a delightful hiking trail in the vicinity of Swamp Lake;  
   get covered with water paddling on Marsh Creek. You could also visit Marten Lake while you're here at Swamp Lake; it's close by, and the summit of Copper Mountain can be made out from Swamp Lake.
An average amount of precipitation falls at Swamp Lake; January is the wettest month with most snow, and July is the month with the least moisture. Swamp Lake is one of the lakes here in the Sawtooth Range. Whohoo, so many enjoyable things in one place! The Sawtooth
 
               Range is so good! On a great day at Swamp Lake you can take a hike along the Blue Bunch Trail, and drift down the rapids of Salmon River - Middle Fork in a kayak.
You just can't picture the amount of outdoors entertaining stuff the Sawtooth Range has to offer. Looking for something close to Swamp Lake? Kelly Lake is in the vicinity; a fine place to camp here at Swamp Lake is Thatcher Creek Campground. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is glorious here at Swamp Lake, you can go for a hike along the Bear Valley Creek Trail; why not camp at Lola Creek Campground while you're here at Swamp Lake.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....

Elk Lake

Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk....
