A visit to Snowslide Lake is always a good idea. But wait, there's more amusing stuff to do in the Salmon River Mountains. A brilliant nearby hotel is Mccall Super 8 Lodge, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Fall Creek Trail. Black Lee Creek flows through this area, and Snowslide Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Black Lee Campground is a good local campground. Having a good time in the Salmon River Mountains is trouble-free. This is a great area for people who like lakes. During the warm months highs here at Snowslide Lake reach the 90's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with
highs in the 40's while Snowslide Lake nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. Nearby lakes? Sure, Golden Lake is in close proximity to Snowslide Lake, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Boulder
Driveway Trail. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is always beautiful.
This lake is so wonderful. On a splendid day at Snowslide Lake you can take a hike along the Box Lake Trail, and at Snowslide Lake you can see Sawtooth Peak.

Blackmare Lake

The trail to Blackmare Lake is in very poor shape. The fire last year weakened the trees and the wind took down many of them. There are several 24-36' logs across the trail preventing horse travel. Hikers can make the trek, but expect to be climbing over a lot of down timber. The trails themselves are not terrible, but they are very loose with decomposed granite sand.
The other big problem with the trail is that past the signs at the first bridge, there is absolutely no direction as to where the trails will take you or how far you are along the trails. ... |

The trail has not been maintained. I was able to hike it easily to the top 2 or 3 years ago. Not today...It was overgrown a lot and substantial deadfall. There are some burned spots also. That said, it's beautiful and a rigorous hike. Wear pants as the twigs will scratch you, and take insect repellant. Check your body for ticks also. The lookout is cool.... |
