The Ship Island Trail offers hiking at its best, and the peaks of the Bighorn Crags dominate the scenery of this area. Having a splendid time in the Salmon River Mountains is uncomplicated. Take a hike on the South Fork Trail, and you can stay the night at Yellowjacket Campground. But wait, there's more enjoyable things to do in the Salmon River Mountains. For the period of the warm days of summer       at Shoban Lake temperatures are mostly in the 80's while night lows are regularly in the 40's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Shoban Lake. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this place. Nearby lakes? Sure, Airplane Lake is close to Shoban Lake; get wet paddling on Panther Creek. This lake is one of the great places here in the Salmon River Mountains. Whitewater paddling is nice on                  Camas Creek; a splendid sight of beautiful Bighorn Crags is available. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Waterfall Trail. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Shoban Lake has to offer, you can camp at Crags Campground.
