After a long day outdoors Best Western Salmon Rapids Lodge is a great location to spend a night or two; paddling on Snake River is so much fun. Summertime at Shelf Lake comes with high temperatures in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Shelf Lake       are in the 20's. Yep, outdoors cool stuff truly is bountiful here in the Wallowa Mountains. Good hiking is available along the Heavens Gate Trail, and on a beautiful day you get a great view of Tower of Babel from Shelf Lake. Soar down the rapids of Little Salmon River in a kayak; dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Mccall-The Hunt Lodge, Id. This is no place for people who don’t like to have a good time. Seven Devils Campground                  is a perfect campground nearby, and there's tremendous hiking along the Old Boise Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Shelf Lake; Deep Creek Trail is a magnificent local trail, and you can stay the night at Windy Saddle Campground. It is very dried up here at Shelf Lake frequently; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest month is July. Lakes are fine; Basin Lake is a lake that's near Shelf Lake; the Seven Devils Mountains is a major characteristic of the area close by. This lake is located in the wonderful Wallowa Mountains. This lake is so wonderful.
