     Just can't get enough of Pistol Lake. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Pistol Lake has to offer, you can camp at Twin Bridges Campground, and whitewater paddling is pleasant on Johnson Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Johnson Creek has a great whitewater paddling spot close by; if you've had enough of Pistol Lake, Black Lake is nearby. But wait, there's more exciting things to do in the Salmon River Mountains. The peak of Lake Mountain can be seen  
   from Pistol Lake; great hiking is available along the McClure Trail.
Pistol Lake gets a typical amount of annual rain; the month with most of the snow is January; July is the month with the least moisture. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Pistol Lake, and the overnight is a little colder of course, ordinarily in the 30's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Pistol Lake dipping down into the
 
               0's through winter nights. After a long day outdoors Ashley Inn is a nice spot to spend a night or two, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Pistol Lake; Buck Creek Trail is a nice local trail.
The skiing at Brundage Mountain is great, and there's great hiking along the Indian Creek Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Having a great time in the Salmon River Mountains is painless. There's so much to do here at Pistol Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Pen Basin Campground is a brilliant place for that, obviously you could also take a look at Chilcoot Lake while you're here; it's not far at all.
