This lake is so wonderful. Do schedule some time to stop by The Hole close to Pats Lake if you have a chance, and you can stay the night at Grandjean Campground. Don't leave Pats Lake without first going for a hike along the Black Warrior Creek Trail, and lakes are such serene places, why not go to Azure Lake. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Sawtooth Range. The summit of Blacknose Mountain can be made out from Pats Lake, and Hagerman Fossil Beds National

| | Monument is a very great place to visit. From a rainfall point of view Pats Lake is a reasonably normal site; January is the month that gets the most snow, and July is the month with the least moisture. And if that's not enough, there's a lot more to do close to Pats Lake. Good hiking is available along the Yuba River Trail; paddling on Salmon River is so much fun. All the outdoors exciting things in the Sawtooth Range will keep you coming back repeatedly. | |

There are other spots here than Pats Lake, for example Arrowhead Lake. Powerplant Campground is a nice campground nearby, and there's good hiking along the Hot Springs Creek Trail. Pats Lake is a beautiful lake in the Sawtooth
Range. Throughout the summer months highs here at Pats Lake reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 40's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's with temperatures at Pats Lake dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.

 | Elk lake is approximately 12 miles from the Grandjean campground. You can not reach it by car. The trail has mild elevation gain and parallels the river during many sections. There are no designated campgrounds at elk lake however 3 spots have obvious use. Deer and elk are commonly viewed near the lake, especially in the early morning or near dusk.... |

Hell Roaring Lake
 | 13 miles away Hi, we (wife and I) walked into the lake the 3rd week of July 2008; we took the unmaintained road to about 200 yards from the trailhead. If you take this in lieu of the walk in, plan on a 40 minute drive to cover 5-miles; your vehicle (should be high-center 4-wd) will get scratched up from the branches adjacent to the road. The parking lot holds 6-vehicles...if you encounter another vehicle coming at you, there are very few areas where you can back into/get off the road to let the other pass; it is a 'long way' to back up on a challenging road. To get to the trail head from the parking lot, you will ford 2-branches of the river/stream (10 ? 20? across)...walk across deadfall with the aid of a walking stick...or walk thru the water...just below the knee. We walked in on a tuesday and encountered 15+ people coming/going on the path. Easy 2-mile walk, many mosquitoes...quicker coming back.... |
