     The beauty of Papoose Lakes attracts many people from all around. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Having a nice time in the Salmon River Mountains is simple. If you came for an overnight stay Pistol Creek Campground is a brilliant location to camp, and soar down the rapids of Bear Valley Creek in a kayak.
Through the summer months highs here at Papoose Lakes reach the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures
 
   fall down into the 30's. During the winter highs are regularly in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Papoose Lakes sink into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Velvet Falls Campground is a good campground nearby, and a lovely lake like Buck Lake is a splendid place to visit. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors cool things the Salmon River Mountains has to offer. Do stop by Artillery Lake next to Papoose Lakes,  
               it's a scenic lake; you can have a good hiking adventure along the Big Chief Creek Trail.
So many entertaining things to do here at Papoose Lakes, too fine to be true. Hiking along the Big Baldy Ridge Trail is magnificent fun; get covered with water paddling on Rapid River. Brundage Mountain has great slopes and a friendly staff, and do take a hike on the Mule Hill Trail. Papoose Lakes gets a normal amount of precipitation; through the month of January you get the most snow around here while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Moderate uphill hike..couple of miles from road; classic rock wall mountain behind lake; nice place to backpack into..day trip or camp overnite; some wild life; hiked in here in summer and early spring when 1 - 2' of snow on ground (and melt was rushing down mountain side beneath snow...flowers growing in ground beneath crystal clear runoff (beneath snow...quite a site).Didn't catch any fish during August trips. Last time I was in there was the 1970's....
