Through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 20's, and overnight lows at Norton Lake throughout the winter generally descend into the 0's. If you fancy the outdoors you'll fancy it here in the Salmon River Mountains. If you came to camp Whitey Cox Campground is a splendid spot to do that, and a lake close by is Blue Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Shellrock Ridge Trail is always a nice adventure; a great spot for whitewater paddling is Salmon River - Middle Fork. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this place. Camping at Rock Island Campground                  is always a magnificent experience. If you get bored of Norton Lake, you could also check out close by Falconberry Lake, and you can go for a hike on the Cliff Creek Trail. Norton Lake is located in the Salmon River Mountains.
